MSD of Decatur Township Announces New Assistant Superintendent

The MSD of Decatur Township promotes Chris Gearlds to Assistant Superintendent. 

(May 14, 2024) – INDIANAPOLIS – The MSD of Decatur Township is pleased to announce our new Assistant Superintendent, beginning for the 2024-2025 school year. Mr. Chris Gearlds was School Board approved as the new Assistant Superintendent for the MSD of Decatur Township at the May 14th, 2024 meeting. He has worked in Decatur Township for seven years as a Principal, Director of Human Resources, and E3+ Project Director. Prior to his tenure in Decatur Township, Gearlds spent nine years in Warren Township as an Assistant Principal, Principal, and Director of Early Childhood Education. He began his teaching career in Wayne Township as a Physical Education Teacher and Athletic Director at Ben Davis Junior High and Chapel Hill 7th and 8th Grade Center.  

Gearlds holds a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Health from Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis, a Master’s degree in Education Administration from Butler University, and an Education Specialist degree from Indiana State University.

“As the Assistant Superintendent, my vision is centered around building strong and positive relationships across the entire community. I believe that by fostering a sense of unity and collaboration, we can create a foundation for success that extends beyond the boundaries of our classrooms," Gearlds shared.

"To accelerate learning inside the classroom, we will implement innovative teaching methodologies and leverage technology to enhance the educational experience. By embracing personalized learning approaches, differentiated instruction, and staying abreast of educational trends, we can ensure that each student receives the support they need to excel academically.  I’m honored to have this opportunity to continue to support and lead our Hawks into the future and look forward to the collaboration with all stakeholders within our Decatur Township community.” 

Personally, Mr. Gearlds and his wife (Wendy) have two wonderful children, Oliver and Estelle. Outside of work, he enjoys supporting his kids in their school and athletic endeavors, golfing, traveling, running, and spending time with family and friends.
