If you drive by Valley Mills Elementary, you will see the front of the school is home to a construction site! Renovations began this fall and are ongoing.
Students arrive at school, staying out of the construction zone, which is safely fenced.
By the time the school is finished, every classroom will have new carpet and paint, with some receiving new needed cabinetry. Several classrooms are already complete (see photos below).

The building will also have completely renovated restrooms and plumbing! The upstairs restrooms are updated and complete, and others are still under construction (photos below).

Restrooms currently under construction.
There will be a new entrance and office suite at the front of the school, and the addition of small group learning spaces/offices where the cafeteria stage was located. As seen in the photos, it is a work in progress!
Mr. Jack Birmingham, Principal, can’t say enough about the student and staff response to the construction. “The patience and flexibility of everyone in the school has just been amazing,” shared Mr. Birmingham. “The great thing is that many people have no idea how the staff has worked through these disruptions and still creates a warm learning environment for the students of Valley Mills each day.”
In order to seamlessly incorporate the construction zones into the school, the "walled off" zones have now become a "wall of encouragement" to share positive messages to students. Teachers, bus drivers, visitors, and students have all contributed to the wall, with permission from Mr. Birmingham:-)
