Decatur Central Announces 2024 Co-Valedictorians and Salutatorian

Decatur Central High School is proud to announce the top academic achievers for the Class of 2024. Congratulations to Co-Valedictorians Kylie Dalton and Aissatou Diallo and Salutatorian Kamia Moore!

 Kylie Dalton Co-Valedictorian

Kylie Dalton is the daughter of Jennifer and Richie Dalton. She holds a 4.59 GPA and is a member of both the National Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society. Kylie currently serves as treasurer for the NHS and volunteered in various school and community events through the organization. She played volleyball at DCHS all four years, while also playing club volleyball two of those years. “My best high school memory was last year when my volleyball team beat Mooresville for the first time in years. We were not projected to win, but won in the 5th set and the crowd was going crazy,” said Kylie. As a senior, Kylie earned All-State Academic Honors for Volleyball. She attended West Newton Elementary School and Decatur Middle School.

Kylie will attend Indiana University Bloomington this fall, where she has earned direct admission into the Kelley School of Business. She plans to major in Accounting, Finance, and Business Analytics. “Thank you to my family for always supporting me and my friends for keeping me sane through high school when I was stressed about tests,” shared Kylie. “I am Decatur Proud because I love the culture here, the people I”ve met, and the connections I’ve made.”

Aissatou Diallo Co-Valedictorian

Aissatou Diallo is the daughter of Thierno Diallo and Thimann Jallah. She earned a GPA of 4.59 and was a member of the DC Color Guard all four years. Aissatou spent the first semester of her senior year in Korea, where she was able to shadow many surgeons and anesthesiologists at a military hospital. She also visited Vietnam and Thailand during this time. In addition to this amazing experience, Aissatou also shared that, “My favorite high school memory was the Prom last year at the zoo.” Aissatou attended the Blue Academy and Decatur Middle School before DCHS. 

Aissatou will attend Indiana University Bloomington in the fall, where she will major in Biology. She then plans to advance to medical school in order to become an anesthesiologist. “I would like to thank my parents, Michelle Coar with the IT Department, and my Color Guard Coach Harley Blane,” shared Aissatou. “Thank you to all of my teachers for giving me a good experience and chances while supporting me.”

Kamia Moore is the daughter of Talisa Shirley and Gary Moore. She earned a 4.5 GPA in her time at Decatur Central. Kamia is a member and President of the National Honor Society at DCHS.  She attended the Blue Academy and Decatur Middle School. Kamia’s best high school memory was during the COVID-19 pandemic her freshman year of high school. “I was in a zoom meeting for English and fell asleep. Ever since then, I’ve always been up and on time for everything,” she shared. 

In the fall, Kamia will attend Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) in Tallahassee, Florida. She plans to major in Psychology, and will then pursue a doctoral degree to become a clinical psychologist. “I want to thank my Mom because she gave me motivational speeches and pushed me hard to get everything done on time and the right way. I also am thankful for my best friends for evening it out and encouraging me,” said Kamia. She is Decatur Proud because, “the school keeps me very entertained and interested. There are alway new things and people.”
