“I made the book in Child Development class for my little brother who just turned 5 years old. I made it colorful to appeal to kids, and also interactive,” explained Serenity. Each page of the book highlights a letter of the alphabet and words that start with that letter, that can then be found in the detailed illustrations on the facing page.

Serenity is grateful to her mother, Tamika Howard, a published author in her own right, who managed the publication process and worked with Serenity’s original sketches to create the illustrations. “She did so much to help with this, and I was so surprised,” Serenity shared.

Serenity’s personal favorite page is for the letter J, “because I just love the water, all the pink, and especially the jellyfish.”

“I’m really proud of this book! I’ve always loved engaging with children and taught my brother his ABC’s, so it’s fun that now people are buying my book to teach their kids the ABC’s! I just love being a part of a kid’s learning experience.”

Serenity is planning a career in nursing, and is also thinking about writing more books in the future. She looks forward to sharing the book with more children in Decatur Township very soon!

Serenity, you make us Decatur Proud!!
