Gold Academy: A Day in the Life of a Kindergartener

When visitors step into the Gold Academy, the smiles and enthusiasm of our youngest learners are noticed right away! From the moment they arrive by bus or car, the Kindergarten students are eager to learn, play, and explore!

On a typical day in Kindergarten classes at the Gold Academy Elementary, students follow a carefully crafted schedule that provides a balance of structured learning activities, literacy centers, and explicit instruction.               

At the start of the day, the students gather together for a morning meeting. This is a time for them to greet one another, learn from each other, and set the tone for the day ahead. During this time, they may review the schedule, participate in letter or number practice, or engage in discussions about topics that interest them. 

Next, the students move on to the reading block. During this time, they work on developing their reading and writing skills through a variety of activities. They might practice letter recognition, sound out new words, or work on writing sentences. Students work within small groups and meet with the classroom teacher or assistant for individualized support. 

After enjoying lunch and recess, the students head to a special area class. Here they have the opportunity to explore. One particular special area class is music, where students have opportunities to hear different types of music, learn about rhythm and melody, and express themselves through singing and movement. They may also be introduced to different musical instruments and learn how to create simple rhythms and melodies of their own. 

Math class occurs in the afternoon, including hands-on learning activities to build number sense and recognition. What is the best way to learn more about the Kindergarten experience at Gold Academy? Sawyer: “School is fun. I love playing with my friends and playdough. I learned that cat starts with c!”

Noah: “We go outside for recess. We sing a song with letters and sounds. We also read and play with toys- my favorite is the blocks.”

Zam Zam: “We have the best lunch; I like the nachos with cheese and the chicken. At school, I like writing and coloring and painting. We are learning to write to 100!”
