Special Education
The amount of special education services and location of those services must be individualized to the special needs of the student, not based on what is currently available or fits within the current structure. Special education is not a place! We wrap services around each individual student to ensure success. Students are first and foremost general education students; therefore the goal (as mandated by federal law) is to provide inclusionary services in the general education classroom with the Indiana Academic Standards whenever possible. We also provide direct, explicit instruction at the student’s level if needed to continue growth toward annual IEP goals.
Decatur Township provides a free, appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment for ALL students ages 3-22 with disabilities. We make every effort to educate students in their home school environments, but there are other options available depending on the needs identified in the student's individualized education program (IEP). Working in partnership with RISE Learning Center, we provide a full continuum of services to meet the unique needs of our students. Students are first determined eligible for special education services through a multidisciplinary evaluation coordinated by our team of school psychologists.
