MSD DECATUR RECOGNIZES SLAGLE, TEACHER OF THE YEAR; MONDAY, SUPPORT STAFF OF THE YEAR.
On May 5, at the annual Teacher’s Retirement Dinner, the MSD of Decatur Township recognized Rachel Slagle as Teacher of the Year and George Monday as Support Staff of the Year.
Slagle is the Physical Education Teacher at Valley Mills Elementary School. She has been with the district since 2004, serving in an array of coaching roles in addition to her teaching responsibilities. “My responsibility as an educator is to challenge my students and encourage their exploration of knowledge through multiple facets of learning while providing the tools for them to become confident, life-long learners and productive citizens. I believe every child has the potential to bring something unique and special to the world,” writes Slagle in an essay about her teaching philosophy.\
Monday serves in the maintenance department and has been with the district 20 years. “He goes above and beyond to help all employees throughout the district with their maintenance needs. His positive outlook is contagious and deserves to be recognized,” said Tony Burchett, Chief Operating Officer.
Each employee will receive a dedicated parking space. They will provide and inspirational speech to the entire MSD Decatur staff at a Back to School Luncheon in July.
