The Decatur Central Marching Band has had a very busy start to the football and competition season.
Just this past week our DC band was featured on the WISH TV8 Morning Show.
They played 5 times on live TV that morning. It was an early start for a small group of students (19 of them) that represented the entire 130 members. These students, along with leader Mr. Tim Cox, arrived at 4:30am to dress into full uniform and make the trip downtown.
That was followed by a full day of school and a HOME Football game.
The very next day our DC Band Boosters hosted the 2017 Contest of Champions Marching Band Invitational. This contest had 21 bands in attendance and was the largest ever in Decatur Centrals' time of hosting. It is estimated that more people were on the DCHS campus that Saturday than at any other time in DCHS history. The students, over 80 band boosters, along with Mr. Cox and his staff hosted an awesome event. The Boosters hired some of the nation’s top music educators and visual arts judges to adjudicate the contest. There were judges from Texas, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Illinois and Ohio.
This event is a major fundraiser for the band department and helps to keep our student fees among the lowest in the state for our size of program.
A special thanks to the DCHS Tech Department, Police Force, Fine Arts staff, and administration for their support of our students! We are Decatur Proud of our band program!
