District Statement Regarding External Lockdowns

District Statement Regarding External Lockdowns

On Tuesday, January 26 at 8:50 AM, the following MSD Decatur buildings implemented external lock down procedures due to a police pursuit in the area: Valley Mills Elementary, Decatur Township School for Excellence, Decatur Middle School, Decatur Central High School, MSD Decatur Administrative Offices. The suspect was apprehended at approximately 9:10 AM, and all buildings resumed normal school security protocol.

As student safety is our top priority, MSD Decatur Principals and Administrators will implement external lock down procedures when there is a threat in the vicinity of the building. An external lock down restricts visitors from entering and exiting the building. During an external lock down, classes, learning and movement inside the building carry on as usual.

Normal school security protocol require that the front entrance remain locked at all time. Visitors enter after ringing a doorbell and being admitted by front office personnel. Visitors are then required to sign in and are escorted while in the building.

If you have any questions or concerns about school safety and security, please contact your child's principal. If you see or hear something suspicious, please report it immediately to your child's school.
