A hearty congratulations goes out to Olivia Dvoracek (9th grade, Choice) and Elena Trujillo (12th grade, New Tech) for qualifying to the state tournament this past Saturday at the sectional meet.
It is truly impressive for a 9th grade student to qualify to state, especially since Olivia competed against students who have been participating in speech for multiple years and sectionals was only her second time competing in the event in which she qualified. The accomplishment speaks to her impressive skill as a writer (she researched and wrote her own speech) and orator.
Elena has filled her senior year with a tough course load, Comedy Sportz, One Acts, a job, and speech. Never using “senioritis" as an excuse, she worked hard to qualify in two events, one of which she wrote herself. Last year, Elena qualified to and competed in the National Speech and Debate Tournament in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Their Decatur Family wishes them luck as they prepare for the district tournament this Saturday and the state tournament on March 11. We are DecaturProud!!!
