Congratulations to Decatur Central Show Choirs, Goldenaires and Expressions, who both qualified for the State ISSMA Competition this weekend!
The top 9 ensembles in each ISSMA show choir division are invited each year for State Finals. Last year, Expressions made history by qualifying for the first time ever!
Ms. Jenna Crafts, Director, explained, “This year, both of our ensembles qualified, which is an even bigger achievement for the DC Choir program! Expressions was one of the top 9 large univoice groups that competed this year in the entire state. Goldenaires was one of the top 9 large mixed voice groups that competed this year in the whole state.”
Both groups will attend State Finals this Saturday, March 16 at Pike High School. Expressions will perform at 1:15 pm, and Goldenaires will perform at 7:30 pm. This event is ticketed but open to the public. We invite the entire Decatur Township community to attend and support the Goldenaires and Expressions!
Expressions' show this year is titled "Espionage," and has a theme of spy movies and TV shows. Goldenaires' show is titled "Into the Ashes," and has a theme of a dystopian society deciding to have a revolution. The show choirs attended 4 competitions this season (Ball State, Mooresville, Ben Davis, Brownsburg) and the scores from three of them counted toward the State Finals eligibility. Both groups improved their scores every week by anywhere between 2 and 20 points. Making State Finals is an incredible achievement for the DC choir program, as they compete against other larger schools across the state.
“I'm incredibly proud of our showing this season, and incredibly excited to perform on Saturday! It's an honor to even qualify, but we hope to improve our scores and place as well,” shared Ms. Crafts.
Auditions for next year’s show choirs are taking place next week: March 18, 19, and 20th. Don’t miss this chance to join an incredible choir program at Decatur Central High School!
