On Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at the School Board of Education Meeting, Mr. Tony Burchett, Interim Assistant Superintendent, recognized the Decatur Central Hawks Football Team for their outstanding season this fall and achievement of Class 5A State Runner-Up status. Coach Kyle Enright shared the story and accomplishments of the team:
"On behalf of the team I would like to thank Dr. Hofer, the Admin Team and the School Board for this special recognition. This amazing season would not have been possible without your unwavering support. After going 4-7 in 2022, our young men decided that they had "something to prove" in 2023 and that became our motto for the season. What they set out to prove was that they were good people first, good students second and good football players third. Regardless of the wins and losses this team proved those three things all season. Speaking on behalf of all of our coaches, we couldn't be more proud of a group of young men and their dedication to "prove it" every single day. We finished the fall semester with a record 53 student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and 59 student-athletes with a fall semester GPA of 3.0 or higher. We look forward to continuing to strive to be the best we can be in all we do and make everyone in the community 'Decatur Proud'."
