MSD of Decatur Township Approved for CEP National School Lunch & Breakfast Program
The MSD of Decatur Township will be implementing the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for lunch and breakfast meals served for the 2024-2025 school year.
(JULY 1, 2024) – INDIANAPOLIS – The MSD of Decatur Township is pleased to announce the implementation of the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for meals served on the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program for the 2024-2025 school year. This means that ALL students enrolled in Decatur Township Schools are automatically eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school at no charge each school day. Students will be able to participate in these meal programs without having to pay a fee or submit an application.
Dr. Scott Collins, Superintendent, explained, “We know that well-fed students are better able to concentrate, learn, and perform academically, leading to better overall educational outcomes. Taking part in the Community Eligibility Provision ensures that all students in Decatur Township have access to free, nutritious meals at school. We are Decatur Proud to provide this additional support for families, removing the need to apply for financial assistance as in the past.”
Community Eligibility Provision participation will positively impact financial predictability and stability within the Child Nutrition Department, helping to ensure the financial sustainability of school meal programs. Providing free breakfast and lunch to all students not only ensures that all students have access to free, nutritious meals, but will likely increase participation in the school meal programs, leading to community and economic benefits of jobs and increased demand for local food suppliers. CEP participation will be evaluated annually by MSD of Decatur Township to ensure the provision continues to meet the needs of our families and school communities.
What does this mean for families?
No action is required by parents/guardians of students within Decatur Township Schools. There is no need to complete a free/reduced lunch application or send “lunch money” to school. The opportunity will still be available for families to add funds to the Linq Connect meal app or send cash with students for the purchase of “extra” items such as compliant smart snacks, or additional entrees, but this is entirely optional.
